Bun cha, the most famous delicious dish in Hanoi

Touring Hanoi, you will see many of the street restaurant that have the advertised board: Bun cha. This is a very famous and delicious food in Hanoi. Even President Barrack Obama had tried it and happy with it.

This is a very recommended food to try in Hanoi. Although I am an Hanoian, I still love bun cha that I can eat everyday.

So, what is bun cha?

It is basically a cold noodle soup with pork. You’ll be served by a plate of rice noodles, fresh herbs, and a bowl of cold broth with grilled pork. The rice noodles and fresh herbs are pretty common in a Vietnamese restaurant. The broth and the pork are the ones make this dish unique. There are several other food to eat with bun cha like nem (spring roll)

Where is the best place to have a bun cha?

  1. Recommendation here is to try the restaurant that Mr. Obama visited: Bun cha Huong Lien (24 Lê Văn Hưu, Phạm Đình Hồ, Hai Bà Trưng, Hà Nội, Việt Nam). The map to the restaurant is here.
  2. Bun cha (23 Nguyễn Biểu, Ba Đình, Hà Nội.)

3. Bun cha 34 (34 Hang Than, Ba Dinh)

I have tried all these restaurants and found that Bun cha Obama, aka bun cha Huong Lien is the best place.

How much is a bun cha for 1 person?

In every restaurant, the bun cha costs about VND 30.000- 50.000 ($1,5-2,5). If you would like to order spring roll, it will be a little more expensive (a spring roll is about VND 10.000, sea food spring roll is VND 20.000-30.000). So it costs total around VND 70.000 with a fully dish.
